(Image Credit: RTA Studio)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr Finch is supported by research from A Te Uru Rakau &#8211; New Zealand Forestry Service, which found &#8220;if the industry replaced around half of their current use of steel and concrete with timber, it could reduce our national embodied carbon dioxide emissions by half a billion tonnes each year.&#8221;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Timber Unlimited will dispel many myths about using Timber in New Zealand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through a programme called &#8216;Timber Decoded&#8217;, &#8220;we will help dispel common myths and preconceptions about timber,&#8221; Mr Finch said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new initiative was developed following careful research and listening to the needs of sector professionals and builders, Finch says.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;This gave us insight and information on how Timber Unlimited can positively influence perceptions.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-embed-handler wp-block-embed-embed-handler wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"youtube-embed\" data-video_id=\"2QKcUpH-UEU\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Shining a Light on the SCION Innovation Hub and Its Distinctive Diagrid\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/2QKcUpH-UEU?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>New Zealand has a strong history when it comes to timber adoption. specifically in commercial construction.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;This information is critical for Timber Unlimited&#8230;creativity, confidence and, ultimately, a surge in its use throughout our industry.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Mass timber is not as commonplace as it could be,&#8221; according to Mr Finch, &#8220;due to lack of industry experience with it, misinformation, and perceptions such as believing it was too expensive, would not stand up to a fire or was not structurally as sound.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Mr Finch, Timber is sustainable, easy to use and highly flexible in its uses and compares more favourably with other building materials in cost and strength.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Part of creating<a href=\"http:\/\/timberunlimited.co.nz\">\u00a0the website<\/a> is to build belief in the possibilities of timber.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/woodcentral.com.au\/top-nz-architect-pushes-to-boost-wood-processing-for-housing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">This is supported by Dr Anthony H\u014dete<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 a past NZ Institute of Architecture winner \u2013 who has called for greater adoption of mass throughout their award-winning buildings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Warren and Mahoney<a href=\"https:\/\/woodcentral.com.au\/nzs-largest-all-timber-building-is-taking-shape-in-tauranga\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u00a0are behind New Zealand&#8217;s tallest all-timber buildings,\u00a0<\/a>with Principal Simon Hardy emphasising the importance of mass timber as a material choice in
