(Photo credit: Clarissa Brandt from Timber Queensland)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\">More information about the Study Tour<\/h6>\n\n\n\n<p>The tour leads to the <a href=\"https:\/\/wcte2023.org\/\">World Conference of Timber Engineering in Oso, Norway<\/a>, from June 19 to 22.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A feature includes a stay at the Wood Hotel Resort and Spa in Brumunddal, Norway, an 18-storey mass timber hotel. They are inspecting buildings under construction as well as completed projects. Inspections of CLT, glulam manufacturing, and modular fabrication plants are a highlight of the tour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Andrew Dunn Report<\/h6>\n\n\n\n<p>The start of the tour on June 11 was at a Swedish pub next door to the hotel the tour party was staying at. The Bishops Arms looked like it was from Great Britain and was a perfect place to get to know the team on tour. Tour members introduced themselves and explained why they were on the tour and what they expected to get out of it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ri.se\/sv\/person\/daniel-brandon\">Daniel Brandon from the Research Institute of Sweden<\/a>, a world-leading mass timber compartment fire researcher, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/kenneth-w-a325552a\/\">Kenneth Widehall from Binderholz<\/a>, joined the group. It will be built with CLT BBS as well as glulam. Halmstad, at the time part of the Kingdom of Denmark, received its first city charter in 1307 and celebrated its 700th anniversary in 2007.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Day 2 Report <\/h6>\n\n\n\n<p>Today is all about V\u00e4xj\u00f6, a town in central Sweden. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>V\u00e4xj\u00f6&nbsp;is known as <a href=\"https:\/\/nordregio.org\/sustainable_cities\/europes-greenest-city-vaxjo\/\">&#8220;The Greenest City in Europe&#8221; <\/a>and could be described as a timber town. In 2017 V\u00e4xj\u00f6 was awarded the European Green Leaf Award 2018 by the European Commission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-embed-handler wp-block-embed-embed-handler wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"youtube-embed\" data-video_id=\"BZBC6O2x6Gw\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" established in the early 2010s, the V\u00e4xj\u00f6 Municipality committed that by 2020 50% of new builds are be timber-based, and in <a href=\"https:\/\/vaxjo.se\/download\/18.35d6e9ef173d516f49758b6\/1597041882155\/ENG_H%C3%A5llbarhetsprogrammet%20H%C3%A5llbara%20V%C3%A4xj%C3%B6%202030_antaget%20av%20KF_final.pdf\">2015 established a Sustainable Agenda for 2030<\/a>, which leans heavily on low carbon timbers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, <strong>a Climate Impact Declaration is mandatory for all new buildings. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This declaration specifies that, from 2022, buildings whose load-bearing walls have the lowest CO2 footprint (CO2 emissions) will be given preference over other construction projects. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And from 2025, the focus will be on buildings with the lowest CO2 footprint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, the first stop was to see a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boklok.com\/global\/\">Bo Klok estate<\/a>, where the delegation was greeted with an Australian flag!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images However, the indoor running track has a well-detailed bow string girder supporting the roof.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Solar Arena was opened in September 2022 and replaced the old <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nordicstadiums.com\/tingvalla-ip\/\">Tingvalla Idrottsplats<\/a>&nbsp;stadium as part of a larger sports complex incorporating the Eva-Lisa Holtz indoor running track.
