Limited to just 25 participants, the tour promises rare access to factories, robotics labs, mass\u2011timber plants, and construction projects that are otherwise strictly off\u2011limits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Led by Timber Development Association CEO Andrew Dunn and Wood Central founder Jason Ross, the tour is designed for architects, engineers, developers, and construction professionals seeking a deeper understanding of industrialised timber construction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button is-style-outline is-style-outline--1\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/tour.woodcentral.com.au\/\">Click here to register your interest today!<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Dunn said the tour comes at a pivotal moment for Australia as it grapples with a shortage of detached, semi\u2011detached, mid\u2011rise, and high\u2011rise housing. \u201cThe tour will give engineers, architects, and construction professionals a unique understanding of how industrialised timber construction happens overseas.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said the UK offers one of the closest parallels to Australia\u2019s lightweight timber\u2011frame market, while Sweden \u201chas been at the forefront of prefab and off\u2011site construction for decades.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A veteran of international study tours \u2014 last year he led a delegation to Osaka\u2019s World Expo \u2014 Dunn said the 2026 itinerary promises to be \u201ca trip of a lifetime\u201d for anyone working at the intersection of timber, design and advanced manufacturing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And the tour&#8217;s timing could not be any more relevant. <a href=\"https:\/\/woodcentral.com.au\/were-not-sweden-australia-must-do-prefab-housing-its-own-way\/\">In October,<\/a> Building 4.0 CRC CEO Mathew Aitchison warned that whilst modern methods of construction (MMC) offer \u201chuge potential to boost productivity and lower costs,\u201d Australia cannot simply import foreign systems.\u201cWe\u2019ve got an immense amount to learn from other countries,\u201d Aitchison said. \u201cBut we have to be very cautious about the way we apply those lessons in Australia.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p>\u201cAnd that\u2019s the basis of this tour,\u201d Dunn said. \u201cWe want to learn from the best overseas and create a model that is fit for purpose for Australia.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-vimeo wp-block-embed-vimeo wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The Future of Construction: Wood Central\u2019s UK\u2013Sweden Study Tour\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/1148577500?dnt=1&amp;app_id=122963\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen; picture-in-picture; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Join Wood Central\u2019s 10\u2011day UK\u2013Sweden study tour and step inside Europe\u2019s leading timber factories, robotics labs and modular construction sites. Participants are slated to visit world\u2011leading robotics and automation facilities, production plants manufacturing engineered wood products, modular apartment factories, robotic \u201chouse factories,\u201d and a series of timber buildings across\u00a0Sweden \u2014 including V\u00e4xj\u00f6\u2019s pioneering eight\u2011storey timber apartments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dunn said the tour will open doors that are usually closed to outsiders. \u201cThese are facilities and projects you simply cannot walk into,\u201d he said.<br>We&#8217;re talking about world\u2011leading&nbsp;timber&nbsp;modular fabrication plants \u2014 the places shaping the future of global timber construction.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The tour comes as governments ramp up investment in domestic timber manufacturing. <a href=\"https:\/\/woodcentral.com.au\/victoria-and-canberra-back-new-timber-precinct-to-fast%e2%80%91track-housing\/\">Earlier this month<\/a>, the Victorian and Australian Governments jointly backed THE PRECINCT, a feasibility project designed to accelerate prefabricated timber housing using plantation fibre from the Green Triangle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project \u2014 supported through the Albanese Government\u2019s Australian Forest and Wood Innovations (AFWI) program \u2014 aims to boost local engineered\u2011timber production and reduce reliance on imports.
