{"id":28578,"date":"2025-09-11T14:38:21","date_gmt":"2025-09-11T04:38:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/woodcentral.com.au\/?p=28578"},"modified":"2025-09-11T14:38:23","modified_gmt":"2025-09-11T04:38:23","slug":"can-timber-framing-short-circuit-australias-housing-crisis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/woodcentral.com.au\/can-timber-framing-short-circuit-australias-housing-crisis\/","title":{"rendered":"Can Timber Framing Short-Circuit Australia\u2019s Housing Crisis?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Up to 80% of all building elements used in Australia\u2019s construction supply chain could soon be prefabricated; however, despite major strides in volumetric construction, Australia should not \u2014and cannot \u2014forget about the \u201caffordable, dependable and reliable\u201d frame and truss supply chain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That is according to Dr Alastair Woodard, <a href=\"https:\/\/woodcentral.com.au\/why-elemental-prefab-is-key-to-short-circuit-housing-crisis\/\">who last year spoke to the Wood Central Publisher about the importance of using<\/a> &#8220;elemental prefabrication&#8221; to further activate the country&#8217;s 280-strong frame and truss industry. \u201cElemental prefabrication means fabricators work with builders off-site to add value and improve productivity,\u201d he said.<strong> \u201cIt means we can build more homes quicker.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It follows the rise of prefabrication and modular housing,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2025-08-17\/modular-housing-to-build-climate-proof-and-reducing-waste\/105618742\"> which have garnered national headlines<\/a>, as a growing number of innovative builders look to use timber-steel wall and floor systems to build detached and semi-detached housing at scale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I proposed this solution 20 years ago, knowing those in power would block it, they were profiting from the crisis.<br><br>For two decades, I&#39;ve watched entire generations priced out of basic shelter.
