All-Timber Domed Roof to Hang Over Centre Court"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>One of the world&#8217;s most magnificent timber roofs could be built in Brazil after New York-based Victor Ortiz revealed plans to construct the country&#8217;s largest private tennis court in Cuiab\u00e1, Mato Grosso &#8211; close to the geographical heart of South America.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The GS Tennis Court for Mato Grosso <\/em>&#8211; designed by Victor Ortiz Architecture, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/structurecraft.com\/blog\/gerry-epp-s-move-from-f-e-to-scb\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">with support from Gerad Epp&#8217;s StructureCraft<\/a> and local mass timber fabricators Timbau Estruturas:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p>&#8220;Spanning up to 60m (200 feet), the GS Tennis Court introduces the structural concept of achieving curves using straight timber beams,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/posts\/structurecraft_domed-timber-rooftop-by-victor-ortiz-will-activity-7085364843934871552-TBxD\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according to StructurceCraft<\/a>. &#8220;The 2,500 square metre (27,000 square feet) domed roof opens to a central oculus that allows for unobstructed views of the sky, and the undulating structure peels up at the bases to provide glimpses of the surrounding nature.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Drawing inspiration from the radial structure of sea urchins, &#8220;the goal was to create a space that not only maximises material efficiency but also allows for impressive spans,&#8221; according to Designboom, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.designboom.com\/architecture\/victor-ortiz-gs-tennis-court-cuiaba-mato-grosso-brazil-timber-roof-07-12-2023\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">which wrote about the project late last year. <\/a>Beyond its function as a tennis court, the building also includes a sports hall\u2014encompassing a spa area, change rooms, an industrial kitchen, and lush indoor landscaping featuring local flora.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"1005\" src=\"https:\/\/woodcentral.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/victor-ortiz-GS-tennis-court-cuiaba-brazil-02-768x1005-1.jpg\" alt=\"victor ortiz GS tennis court cuiaba brazil 02 768x1005 1\" class=\"wp-image-21197\" srcset=\"https:\/\/woodcentral.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/victor-ortiz-GS-tennis-court-cuiaba-brazil-02-768x1005-1.jpg 768w, https:\/\/woodcentral.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/victor-ortiz-GS-tennis-court-cuiaba-brazil-02-768x1005-1-229x300.jpg 229w, https:\/\/woodcentral.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/victor-ortiz-GS-tennis-court-cuiaba-brazil-02-768x1005-1-696x911.jpg 696w, https:\/\/woodcentral.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/victor-ortiz-GS-tennis-court-cuiaba-brazil-02-768x1005-1-321x420.jpg 321w, https:\/\/woodcentral.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/victor-ortiz-GS-tennis-court-cuiaba-brazil-02-768x1005-1-600x785.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The tennis court will be flooded with natural light via a large central skylight between the single timber beams.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/leeture.wordpress.com\/2023\/07\/15\/check-out-the-stunning-sustainable-design-of-brazils-largest-private-timber-tennis-court-a-game-changer-in-eco-architecture\/#:~:text=Situated%20in%20the%20city%20of%20Cuiab%C3%A1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">According to Victor Ortiz Architecture<\/a>, the new design&#8217;s choice of timber is part of a growing demand for sustainable design in public and private sports facilities.
