{"id":15268,"date":"2024-02-26T03:22:00","date_gmt":"2024-02-25T16:22:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/woodcentral.com.au\/?p=15268"},"modified":"2024-10-21T20:19:55","modified_gmt":"2024-10-21T10:19:55","slug":"ex-forestry-australia-head-bob-gordon-to-chair-100m-afwi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/woodcentral.com.au\/ex-forestry-australia-head-bob-gordon-to-chair-100m-afwi\/","title":{"rendered":"Ex-Forestry Australia Head Bob Gordon to Chair $100m AFWI"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The board for the establishment and management of the $100 million Australian Forest and Wood Innovations (AFWI) research institute has been appointed.<br>\u00a0<br>AFWI is a collaboration between the Australian Government and the University of Tasmania, committed to advancing research and innovation to support Australia\u2019s forest and wood product industries.<br>\u00a0<br>The newly appointed board will oversee all AFWI activities and expenditures and will operate as an advisory board, and also endorse the strategic direction and research priorities of AFWI.<br>\u00a0<br>The appointment follows an expression of interest and nomination process undertaken by the University of Tasmania.<br>\u00a0<br>Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry Murray Watt said the appointment of the board is the next step in establishing AFWI.<br>\u00a0<br>\u201cThe appointment of the Board will allow the strategic direction and research priorities of AFWI to be finalised, which means AFWI-funded research will shortly begin,\u201d Minister Watt said.<br>\u00a0<br>\u201cThis research will help to support our Australian forest and wood product industries, as well as our journey to generate greater value from our sustainable forestry industries;
