The Annual Australian Timber Design Award winners for 2022 were announced at the Crown Hotel in Sydney last month, hosted by The Ultimate Renewable brand ambassador Adam Dovile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Major partner in the awards was WoodSolutions with sponsors, Pentarch Foresty and XLam Australia (silver) with bronze sponsors Binderholz Group, Design Pine, Kennedy’s Timbers, Planet Ark Make it Wood, Responsible Wood, Rubner Holzbau and Theca Australia, and Timber NSW.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sydney-based H&E Architects won the WoodSolutions first prize for its outstanding project Waterfront Tavern, the centrepiece in an artificial harbour within the expansive and master-planned Shell Cover development south of Wollongong.<\/p>\n\n\n

It acts as both a refuge for residents and a destination for visitors. Lavish and broad in the use of timber, the project team demonstrated exceptional craftsmanship and detailing through its undulating forms, exposed interior and exterior surfaces and features.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The form of the building consists of four pavilions of differing lengths resulting in a building that partially cantilevers over the public boardwalk and water below. Glass and timber finishes act to compliment the contemporary design of the surrounding area and particularly the marina it ogles from all angles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Led by co-directors Chris Grinham and Glenn Cunnington, H&E Architects has for 20 years built from a clear and central platform founded on the delivery of stand-out, enlivened and functional creativity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
