{"id":13421,"date":"2023-12-06T20:39:57","date_gmt":"2023-12-06T09:39:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/woodcentral.com.au\/?p=13421"},"modified":"2024-10-21T20:27:20","modified_gmt":"2024-10-21T10:27:20","slug":"is-strong-by-forms-woodflow-tech-the-future-for-mass-timber","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/woodcentral.com.au\/is-strong-by-forms-woodflow-tech-the-future-for-mass-timber\/","title":{"rendered":"Is Strong by Form&#8217;s Woodflow Tech the Future for Mass Timber?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>German car manufacturer BMW is backing new technologies that could see wood panels replace concrete and steel in vehicle body parts, lightweight construction, freeform concrete formwork, maritime structures and furniture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The technology claims to achieve the strength of concrete with one-tenth of the weight, uses fewer trees than cross-laminated timber products and has the potential to transform lightweight construction.&nbsp;Significantly, it can be deployed on a massive scale across multiple industries,&nbsp;allowing timber to play a pivotal role in solving the climate crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yesterday, Spanish start-up Strong by Form secured US $5.2 million in seed funding with its &#8220;oversubscribed round&#8221; led by CMPC Ventures, the corporate venture capital arm of CMPC, one of the world&#8217;s largest pulp and paper producers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"youtube-embed\" data-video_id=\"Rv2CQjrw4tY\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Unlocking the Power of Natural Wood: The Next Generation of Ultralight, High-Performance Materials\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Rv2CQjrw4tY?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; Mr Mintik said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/strongbyform.com\/\">Established in 2018<\/a>,&nbsp;Strong by Form already has a global footprint with headquarters in Spain, offices in Stuttgart, Germany, and a pilot robotic manufacturing facility in Santiago, Chile &#8211; (Photo Credit: Strong by Form Linkedin account)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>It also has a strong relationship with BMW Group, which &#8220;has helped secure global opportunities&#8221;, and was selected to participate in the Ready Go advanced leadership program earlier this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;This allowed us to access an incredibly knowledgeable team of mentors who have been kind enough even to invite us to visit the amazing BMW facilities in Dingolfing, where the iX model is being produced using the latest automation technology,&#8221; the team said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The latest investment will double in size and build an industrial manufacturing facility.
